Quickly find the specific gravity of a ceramic suspension by floating the hydrometer in a glaze or decorating slip like a buoy, Take the reading at the suspension surface where it is flat (away from the curving meniscus). This 6" (15 cm) long hydrometer is graduated in the Beaumé heavy scale running from 0 - 60, equivalent to specific gravities ranging from 1.00 - 1.70. For taking specific gravities of high-solids suspensions like casting slips, the long hydrometer (OHYDL) with an extended, scale is recommended.
