Petalite is a feldspathic mineral rich in lithium. Lithia is lighter in weight and contracts less on cooling than its sodium and potassium oxide cousins making it an effective anti-craze agent in ceramic glazes when used in substitution. It also influences glaze colour, promoting blue from copper and pink from cobalt.
